Jenny says: The more I look at Claire’s work, the more I appreciate it. Her style has really grown on me since I bought the gallery, she is now one of my favourite artists. We receive calls from up and down the country asking what work of Claire’s we have in and it’s lovely to hear how much others appreciate her talent too. Her bright, beautiful works never fail to lift my mood.”
Yorkshire based artist Claire loves colour and enjoys exploring its contrasts and its vibrant and intense nature. Claire particularly likes using colours that are often believed to not work together, and hopes that through doing this she can break down the boundaries of what we should do and explore the freedom that is so often lost in art once we are no longer children.
Usually working on canvas in acrylic and inks, Claire produces textured work through layers of paint and random dripping of inks.
As the painting develops she discovers ‘happy accidents’ which have evolved and help to form the finished painting, often dictating where detail will happen.
Claire West (b.1968) studied at Humberside University and gained B.A. Honours in Fine Art.
As well as exhibiting in galleries throughout the United Kingdom, Claire regularly holds workshops in painting and printmaking to groups of all ages and abilities, the aim of these workshops being “FUN”
She paints mostly in acrylics and mixed media.
Claires work has featured on many television programmes, including I.T. Crowd, Life of Riley and Eastenders.
