Jenny says: Katie lives locally and we actually went to school and university together, graduating from the same degree course. Katie Almond is a firm Itch Gallery favourite and her work is always catching the attention of our customers. Throughout the years I have known Katie, it has been a real pleasure watching her work and ideas develop into such a fantastic collection of pieces. To date I think I have already commissioned four pieces from her as they are just so wonderful!
Firm Itch Gallery favourite Katie Almond is local to Rutland and old school friends with Itch Gallery’s owner, Jenny.
Specialising in ceramics, Katie Almond produces collections of hand-painted, one-off, porcelain cups, jugs, brooches and cake stands.
Inspired by vintage textiles, a love of tea and cakes and her Gran’s old collections of ephemera and photographs, Katie uses her ceramics as blank canvases for decoration and collage with ceramic decals. Her passion for drawing, colour, and text are reflected in every piece making each one individual, nostalgic and quirky.
Her ceramics are multi award winning and she also regularly exhibits at both retail and trade shows.
Katie Almond graduated with a First class BA (Hons) Design Crafts degree in 2009 from De Montfort University (DMU) Leicester. She secured an Artist in Residence placement at DMU 2009/2010 to expand the success of her Degree collection whilst setting up her own studio in her hometown in Rutland.
She is a Flair member of Design Factory and was made a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen in 2011 and her work has been featured in magazines such as “Period Living”, “Essential Living” and “Homes and Antiques”.
