On Sunday 1st October 2017, I was at Ferrers Gallery, helping owner Rachael Chambers celebrate her 15th anniversary as owner. For those who don’t know, after setting up my own ceramics business in 2009, I worked at Ferrers Gallery alongside my creative practice and then also worked at part time at Itch Gallery, (juggling working at Ferrers, Itch and doing my own ceramics) before I finally took the plunge and bought Itch Gallery myself in 2012. I will do a proper blog post on that journey but it will have to wait for another time because it’s a long one!
It was great to celebrate Rachael’s success yesterday, as well as catch up with old friends. 2 of the lovely ladies I worked with at Ferrers became really good friends of mine and ended up being my bridesmaids when I got married in 2013, so it was really great to see them again in the place where we worked all those years ago – it was a bit of a trip down memory lane!
Rachael had invited all her staff members (both current and previous) from the past 15 years to come and celebrate with her and very generously gave us each a handwritten card with a little voucher to spend at the gallery. That was really very thoughtful of her and I had great fun wandering around deciding what to spend my voucher on. It’s so nice to go shopping in someone else’s gallery, I love getting the chance to look around other galleries and seeing all the beautiful things on offer! In the end, I treated myself to a gorgeous pair of earrings by Circle and Dash, which are made with silver and hand painted and printed paper, which has been finished off with an enamel lacquer. They are super light and I had no idea that the droplets were made of paper originally. I can’t wait to wear them!
It was lovely to be invited to join in the celebrations and such a great idea inviting everyone who’s worked there to come and celebrate. These days time seems to go so fast, it’s important to stop and celebrate achievements and look at how far you’ve come. Not only was it a chance for us to reflect on the success of Rachael and Ferrers, but also to look at everyone’s journeys since they left and realised what we’d all achieved.
Congratulations on 15 years of Ferrers, Rachael and here’s to many more!
